Bellefonte Fire House

A Volunteer Fire Station in Bellefonte PA; designed for a Nation Concrete Masonry Association competition.

The Main section of the firehouse was a series of 5 cinder-block flat-jack arch bridges. The bridges divided the engine bays, housed all 10 of the fire poles, and supported the social spaces above. Situating the on-call and recreation spaces directing above the engine bays helped save the firemen those precious seconds getting out the door.

The off-duty spaces were housed in a separate wing built in a style similar to the old factories and industrial buildings in historic Bellefonte. The separation was crucial to allow off-duty firemen to relax and work undisturbed by the alarms and rush of a call.
