Hydrotherapy Center built on Bald Eagle Lake. This design is comprised of three sections: the traditional roman bath progression, physical therapy pools, and personal relaxation grottos.
The main progression is again a three part system. The Caldarium is the first pool, situated by the front door, is a large round seated area allowing guests to take there time and relax. This is followed by the Frigidarium, a cold pool used only as a quick plunge before the tempedarium.
This Frigidarium is unique in that it is a motion-timed space. Most baths would only have a plunge pool where patrons jump in and have to self time the immersion, often times exiting too early. In this design, however, requires patrons to enter the pool and transit the length of the building before finding stairs to exit. The amount of time that it would take the average guest to wade across this section is the equal to the ideal length of exposure in the frigidarium.
The physical therapy pools are large, open spaces overlooking the lake. With high ceilings and ample deck space; these pools provide a place to work out stress in the muscles, where one can go and ease the body.
The private Grottos are dark, slate tiled, spaces set into the hillside. Each of these private spaces is relatively low, and lit primarily by submerged lights under the tube sized pools. These Grottos are meant to be quite spaces for relaxation, where one can go and ease the mind.
